SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A man accused of raping and strangling a 56-year-old Sioux Falls woman in her home is making his initial court appearance.
Forty-year-old Christopher Kryger was due in court Monday. He was arrested Friday on charges of murder, rape and burglary, and jailed on $1 million bond.
Kari Anne Kirkegaard was found dead in her bathtub with the water running on March 16. Authorities say she was strangled with such force that it broke her neck.
Kryger has a history of violent crime dating to 1992, with convictions for assault and arson He has spent much of his adult life in prison, and had been paroled about four months ago.
