The Mitchell City Council on Monday night voted to deny an ordinance that would allow Sunday off-sale liquor sales in the city.  Passage of the ordinance would have made all types of alcohol available on Sundays.

Mitchell voters denied a similar ordinance in 2010 by a vote of 56 percent to 44 percent.  Mitchell Councilman Mel Olson voted to deny the ordinance, saying that passage would go against the will of the voters.

Councilman Marty Barington, who supported the ordinance, noted the lack of opposition to the measure this time.

The ordinance was denied on a 4-3 vote.  It is possible that it will be brought back as an initiated measure by its supporters.
