A Mitchell company will demolish the former VFW building, hopefully within the next few weeks. At a special meeting yesterday, the Mitchell City Council accepted the bid from VanderPol Dragline for 131,000 dollars. Six bidders submitted bids for the project. The city previously had only one bidder for the project at a cost of nearly 217,000 dollars. Demolition is expected to start on Monday. It is hoped that the building can be removed before the start of the Corn Palace Festival so that block can be used for rides.
