The Lowry Hill East neighborhood has a fun tradition where people gather together every year to sharpen a huge No. 2 pencil. This giant pencil, over 12 feet long, sits in a community garden, and was first made in 2002 by a wood sculptor out of a tree damaged in a storm. Some people even dress as pencils or erasers, and yes…they use a giant pencil sharpener.
