MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Crazy Dayz 2026 will look a little less zany from the road due to the extreme heat in the forecast for Mitchell this weekend.

Mitchell Main Street and Beyond Executive Director Elizabeth Luczak spoke during public comment at Monday’s City Council meeting, saying that the customary racks of clothing and other sidewalks stands won’t be put out this year. Instead, customers will be able to come in and enjoy the air conditioning while browsing the offerings from small businesses in the downtown area.

Crazy Dayz is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, when the actual temperature will get up to at least 95 degrees with heat indices easily reaching triple digits. The change to the event won’t diminish any of its charm. Shoppers will still have a chance to find unique items from local shops and boutiques. Stores are planning exclusive discounts to tie into Crazy Dayz. Some outlets will have fun giveaways and pop-up experiences. And, of course, there will be plenty of restaurants ready to refuel guests and get them back to their shopping sprees.

Nearly 50 businesses are set to participate.
