MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell Parks and Recreation Department has made good on its social media promise to open the new playground at Gainer Park this week.

The playset got put through its paces for the first time on Tuesday afternoon. The upgrade includes a fresh rubber flooring that will help reduce injuries. Three canopies give shade to partially protect kids from intense sun.

The equipment has four slides of varying lengths, suitable for all ages. There are monkey bars and a climbing wall with a honeycomb design that reaches the highest platform area.

Gainer Park is located at N. Minnesota Street and W. 2nd Avenue.
