MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) In the last 85 years, Abbott House has changed the lives of more than 5,000 children.

The Abbott House is celebrating this special anniversary and accomplishment with two special events. On October 15th at 4:30 pm, Abbott House, in partnership with the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate its newly remodeled gymnasium, classrooms and sensory room.

The official 85th Anniversary, “85 Years of Caring,” will take place on Oct. 26th at noon at the Dakota Wesleyan University Sherman Center with tours to follow at the Abbott House at 909 Court Merrill in Mitchell, SD. “This is a thank you from Abbott House to the entire community for supporting our services and our children for 85 years,” Eric Klooz, executive director of the Abbott House, said. “It’s a chance to look back and to look ahead to what the future holds.”

The 85th Anniversary Celebration will feature Lisa Larson, a suicide attempt survivor who will share her story of courage and renewal as well as her story of participating in the 437 Project. The 437 Project is a statewide effort to raise awareness and funding for suicide prevention. In addition, guests will hear from Abbott House Alumna, Trisha Gary, who became a counter terrorism officer and senior White House advisor and is now retired.

Join us to celebrate this milestone! Tickets for the event are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The tickets can be purchased at the Abbott House or by calling 605-996-2486 or online at www.abbotthouse.org.
