PLATTE, SD (Mitchell Now) — The District 5B amateur baseball tournament field is set.

Local teams will be vying for a trophy when the action begins in Platte on Thursday, July 23rd, but more importantly, they will be trying to lock up a spot in State Ams next month at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Eight teams, all from the Sunshine League, have made the district bracket, with every game a must-win to advance. The overall number one team in the state has the first seed in District 5B, fittingly. The Alexandria Angels are set to face off against (8) Corsica Horned Frogs at 6 p.m. The other Thursday game is (4) Winner/Colombe battling (5) Platte at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the other side of the bracket gets in on the fun. The two seed, Parkston Mudcats, try to pen up the (7) Mount Vernon Mustangs. The night cap is (3) vs. (6) and has the Parkston Devil Rays looking to sting the Dimock/Emery Raptors.

The district tournament runs through July 31st. The top five teams go to states.
