Mitchell Basketball

The Kernel basketball teams are back home tomorrow night. They’ll host Brandon Valley for Senior Night in the Mitchell high school main gym. It starts with the boys/girls JV at 3:30pm with girls in the auxiliary gym and boys in the main. Then the sophomore games at 4:45pm with girls still in the auxiliary gym and the boys in the main. At 6pm the boys freshman play in the auxiliary gym. Varsity also gets started at 6pm with the (RV) Kernel girls and then the boys end the night with their game beginning at 7:30pm. Senior athletes being recognized include Addie Siemsen, Colton Smith, Kendan Skinner, Carter McCormick, Jacob Ebert, Tyler Christensen, Jaxson Hartman & Luke LeBrun.

DWU Wrestling

The (RV) Tiger men’s wrestling team had a successful weekend in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships. They ended up with their highest finish ever as a team after garnishing a team score of 104.5 points and claimed third in the conference. DWU even came away with an individual champion as Jagger Tyler claimed the GPAC Championship in the 174lb class. Tyler earned himself a spot in the NAIA National Championship Tournament as well. Joining him in the National Championship Tournament will be Kipp Cordes after getting third in the 133lb class.

DWU Track & Field

The Tiger track & field teams had a pair of athletes come away with All-Conference honors after competing in the GPAC Championships this weekend. Those being Dani Deffenbaugh and Quenton Walls. Deffenbaugh earned it in the indoor pentathlon and Walls earned it through triple jump.

DWU Softball

The Tiger softball team who split their weekend games 1-1 now sit at 6-4 overall to begin the year. They’ll be in action again tomorrow afternoon when they head over to Yankton, SD to face Mount Marty. The game will be played at North-East Sertoma Field and first pitch is at 3pm.

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves were back home last night in the Target Center when they hosted the Philadelphia 76ers. It was not Minnesota’s night and definitely Philadelphia’s as the 76ers shot 52 percent from the field and 57 percent from three and beat the Timberwolves, 135-108. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 28 points and they fall to 35-23 overall.
