MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Dakota Wesleyan University is offering a special until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday that allows couples to enjoy a dinner date for the price of a fast food meal.

The Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Theatre is putting on a production of the comedy, Love, Sex, and the I.R.S. throughout June and July at the Black Box Theatre. Typically, the cost for the sumptuous four-course meal, complete with soup, salad, an entrée, and dessert, and the show is $40 per person. If tickets are purchased at the Dakota Discovery Museum box office before close at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, the cost is cut in half.

The deal applies only for the opening weekend, this Friday and Saturday (June 5th and 6th). The food comes out of the kitchen at 6:30 p.m. with the curtain rising on the stage at 7:30, an hour later. The special is for in-person buys, not online.

Love, Sex, and the I.R.S. debuted as a dinner theater production in New Jersey in 1979. It is described as a bawdy comedy, something of “a cross between I Love Lucy and Some Like It Hot.” It involves out-of-work roommates, Jon and Leslie, both musicians, who cheat on their tax returns by falsely claiming to be married. Meanwhile, Jon has an actual fiancée, Kate, who is having an affair with Leslie. Throw in a visit from Jon’s mother to meet Kate and a federal audit, and the recipe is there for all their secrets to come tumbling out.

For those who can’t make the opening weekend, shows are planned June 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27. The cast adds Sunday afternoon performances in July on the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th. Evening entertainment is scheduled for the 3rd, 10-11, 17-18, and 24-25.
