Mayor Says Sioux Falls Can’t Block State’s Immigration Enforcement Plan

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mayor Paul TenHaken says Sioux Falls has no legal authority to stop Governor Rhoden’s “Operation: Prairie Thunder,” a state-led initiative partnering with ICE to step up immigration enforcement. Hundreds of residents packed a city council meeting Wednesday night urging the city to act under Home Rule, but legal experts say federal and state powers override local authority.
