UPDATE: Power Restored After Outage in Mitchell Monday Evening

UPDATE (7:37 a.m. on July 21, 2026): The outage map has been changed from a confirmed outage to a repair at the Langdon and Taylor intersection. A second potential outage has been erased without being confirmed. Electricity is running as normal just east of the downtown area.

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — NorthWestern Energy has confirmed a power outage in Mitchell, just east of the downtown area, on Monday evening.

A second reported outage is still showing as unconfirmed as of 9:15 p.m. It is known for sure that at least seven customers are affected, with the lights dark around the intersection of Langdon and South Taylor Street. The outage is located just behind Vern Eide Chevrolet. NorthWestern does not expect the issue to be resolved until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the 21st.

The other potential problem is just west of Metzner in the alley between East 3rd and 4th Avenues. The utility has not listed a cause at this time.
