Several Area Students Earn College Scholarships


MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A host of area students have recently been awarded scholarships to help with tuition at universities near and far.

Helena Agri-Enterprises awarded Camden Stahl of Mount Vernon with $1,000 through its Homegrown Scholarship, which goes to graduating high school seniors in parts of Missouri, the Dakotas, and Wyoming and the entire states of Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Stahl had two write a pair of essays on the impact he is making in his community and plans to seek a career in agriculture. Stahl is going to Mitchell Technical College in the fall to study agronomy.

BankWest is giving $2,000 scholarships to:

  • Sophia Huber of Mitchell, who is headed to Mendota Heights, MN to attend St. Thomas University. She will study biology and wants to become an optometrist.
  • Jordan Platt of Mitchell has enrolled at Black Hills State University in Spearfish and will major in elementary education.
  • Mitchell’s Olivia Prunty is staying at home. She’ll study nursing at Dakota Wesleyan University.
  • Brock Russell of Mitchell has already got his freshman year at University of South Dakota out of the way. He is a finance major.
  • Kambyl Wede of Mitchell is another future teacher. She’ll study education at Augustana.

BankWest has handed out $676,500 in scholarships over the past 33 years to South Dakota students.
