Sioux Falls Activates “Community Extreme Weather Plan” to Protect Homeless During Freezing Temperatures

MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Our warm October has been nice, but we all know winter is coming, along with the danger of cold weather. When it arrives, Sioux Falls officials and local homeless shelters have a plan to protect those living on the streets.  It’s called the “Community Extreme Weather Plan”.  City Homelessness Services Coordinator Michelle Treasure says it’s a leveled response plan. The Bishop Dudley House and Union Gospel Mission both increase their capacity when conditions become dangerous…adding beds when temperatures are below freezing.
