SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A 53-year-old Sioux Falls man is facing deportation more than three decades after a teenage conviction. Vone Phrommany (Vohn Pro – many), who came to the U.S. from Laos at age six, was detained by ICE in Arizona last month. At 18, a drug conviction led to a deportation order, but because Laos wasn’t accepting deportees at the time, he was allowed to remain in the U.S. His family says he’s built a life in South Dakota, worked as a physical therapist, and regularly checked in with ICE while trying unsuccessfully to become a citizen. Phrommany’s family and friends are fighting to keep him in the only home he’s known for nearly 50 years.
