South Dakota State Fairgrounds Dry Out Just in Time

MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota State Fair kicks off Wednesday in Huron, and organizers say the timing couldn’t be better. Heavy rains last week dumped more than two-and-a-half inches on already saturated fairgrounds, but conditions have since dried out. Assistant State Fair Manager Candi Briley says many vendors had planned to set up over the weekend, and the delay gave crews time to prepare.

The South Dakota State Fair is also rolling out several special promotional days during this year’s event. Opening Day on Wednesday, August 27th, is sponsored by Channel Seeds. Thursday highlights the Value Added Ag Center, while Friday is Olympic Motors Day. Farmers Union Day will be celebrated Saturday, followed by Red, White, and You Day on Sunday. The fair runs August 27th through September 1st, with full details available at SDStateFair.com.

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
