Area Sports

Tonight’s Basketball Games

Mitchell Basketball

The Kernel basketball teams will be playing against Aberdeen Central tomorrow night in separate locations. Girls are on the road and boys are at home. The girls JV will play at 4pm and so will the freshman/JV boys with the freshman in the auxiliary gym and JV in the main. Sophomore girls and boys play at 5:15pm, girls in Aberdeen and boys in the main gym. Varsity games begin at 7pm with the (RV) Kernel girls on the road and the Kernel boys in the main gym in Mitchell.

DWU Basketball

The Tiger basketball teams each came away with some wins over the Doane (NE) Tigers yesterday afternoon. The women kicked it off with a 69-47 win and were led by Avery Broughton with 17 points and Rylee Rosenquist added a 14-point & 10-rebound double-double. DWU women improved to 20-4 overall and 16-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The men ended up having themselves another game sent into overtime. This time, they were the ones who came out on top, 84-81 in OT. Tyson Stevenson led the way with 25 points. DWU men improved to 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the GPAC.

DWU Baseball

The Tiger baseball team had themselves another doubleheader with Valley City State yesterday after getting a pair of wins on Saturday. This time, it was the Vikings who got a pair of wins with 1-0 and 6-3 wins. DWU baseball is now 2-2 overall to begin the season. They will play again this afternoon against Minnesota West at Drake Field at 3:15pm.

NBA

The Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Los Angeles Clippers last night and could not contain Kawhi Leonard. He poured in 41 points in the 115-96 win for LA. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 23 points in the loss. The Timberwolves fall to 32-22 overall.

NFL

Super Bowl LX went down in the NFL last night between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. It ended up being a field goal fest early on and it all came from Seattle. Kicker Jason Myers knocked five total field goals through the uprights, which was good for more than half of Seattle’s points in their eventual 29-14 win over New England. A touchdown was not scored in the game until the fourth quarter. Super Bowl MVP ended up going to Kenneth Walker III after he finished with a total 161 scrimmage yards in the game.
